Dalian’s history’s focal point is on that of foreign occupation. Both Japanese forces and Russian forces were conceded the port city and struggled with each other to keep control. The Russians desperately wanted an ice-free port south of Vladivostok, but eventually were forced out By the Japanese in 1905. The Japanese held it until after the war in 1945 when it was re-occupied by Russian forces for 10 more years.

Because of its location Dalian has been a prosperous trade port with the largest harbour in the north-east. A lot of that trade is that of export textiles to the west. This may account for the cities current rise to prominence as the fashion capital of China. Would be models and fashion designers from around the country flock to Dalian to jump on the fledgling bandwagon. If a look at China’s different periods of fashion is what you’re looking for you won’t be disappointed. Runway shows have become a dime a dozen.
